A gold color metal and enamel device 1 5/16 inches (3.33 cm) in width overall consisting of a gray portcullis with gold metal chains pendant at either side above a blue background, all surmounted by a gold metal, red tongued and crowned rampant lion grasping a red double hook (or wolf-trap) in its right paw, and all above a green scroll inscribed "JUSTICE WITH INTEGRITY" in gold letters.
Green and yellow are the colors used for Military Police. The heraldic portcullis, a massive spiked gate suspended by chains in front of a castle, symbolizes graphically the "confinement" aspects of the organization. The lion holding a double hook or wolf-trap, adapted from the arms of Mannheim, alludes to the present location of the facility. The color blue stands for fairness, red signifies courage, and gray is indicative of discretion.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 26 March 1979.
